Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The two sides signed an agreement allowing citizens to visit both countries visa-free for up to 30 days.
“As part of implementing the agreements reached between the heads of state of Uzbekistan and China, today my colleague and I signed an agreement that allows our citizens to travel to the two countries without a visa for 30 days. This document is another important step towards closer ties, higher trade turnover and stronger people-to-people relations.”
It has not yet been specified when the visa-free regime will take effect — further information will follow.
Background
- since January 1, 2020, Uzbekistan has had a 7-day visa-free regime for Chinese citizens;
- from March 1, 2021, it was extended to 10 days;
- in May 2023, a joint statement by the two leaders said China also planned a visa-free regime for citizens of Uzbekistan.
